Like the novel it's based off of, the Beautiful Creatures movie isn't just for teens-it's sophisticated and smart. But the book is laced with detailed subplots involving the history of the South, bullying and acceptance, and family strife. Lena falls for Ethan Wate, a small-town boy who helps her navigate the danger posed by her magical world. Yes, it has a paranormal twist-there aren't any vampires, but Lena Duchannes is a Caster, which is basically a cross between a witch and a superhero.
